Elevate Your Coaching: Practical Training Session Course Coming to Lang Lang Sporting Complex
Coaches across Gippsland are invited to enhance their skills and elevate their training sessions with an upcoming coaching course focused on the “Coach at Training” competency. This practical and insightful Elevate course will be held on Monday, July 7th, 2025, at the Lang Lang Sporting Complex.
Delivered by experienced AFL Gippsland coach developers and AFL Victoria State coaching staff, this course is designed for coaches working with junior and youth teams up to Under 18s. Specifically invited attendees include V/Line Cup 2025 coaches, All Stars Coaches, Interleague coaches, and all local community coaches who are eager to refine their approach to player development.
The course will provide participants with practical techniques for planning and conducting effective training sessions. It begins with a deep dive into skill acquisition, examining key principles such as repetition, variability, relevance, and the crucial concept of the challenge point. Coaches will learn how to integrate these principles when designing engaging and impactful training activities.
A significant component of the course will explore constraints-based coaching, offering strategies to design sessions that effectively integrate these principles for optimal learning. Participants will also gain valuable insights into designing energizers, fundamental skill activities, decision-making drills, and team-based tasks.
Throughout the session, coaches will be guided to focus on identifying specific learning outcomes for their players, clarifying what they want players to learn, and defining the precise focus of each activity. This purposeful approach ensures that training sessions are not only relevant and challenging but also foster meaningful skill development in players.
Weather permitting, the course will also incorporate an outdoor practical session, allowing coaches to apply their newfound knowledge in a real-world setting.
Upon completion of the course, participants will be awarded 50 Coaching Points under the AFL’s new coaching accreditation framework.
Don’t miss this opportunity to refine your coaching techniques and make a lasting impact on your players’ development.
