AFL Gippsland coaches will have the opportunity to experience football through a different lens later this month, with the next AFL Gippsland Coaching Academy Masterclass providing an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at game day coaching in a talent development environment.

The Game Day Coaching Masterclass will be held on Sunday 23 August at the Centre of Excellence, Morwell Recreation Reserve, coinciding with a Gippsland Power double header featuring both the Gippsland Power Girls and Boys programs.

Designed for coaches of all experience levels, the session will provide valuable insights into how coaches prepare, communicate and adapt throughout a representative football match day. Participants will observe coaching processes in a high-performance environment and gain practical takeaways they can apply at their own clubs and teams.

The unique format allows attendees to experience two live matches while exploring key aspects of game day coaching, including:

• Match preparation and planning
• Coaching communication and leadership
• In-game decision making
• Player management and development
• Review and reflection processes

The masterclass will centre around the Gippsland Power’s double header, with the Girls team taking the field at 11.00am, followed by the Boys team at 1.00pm.

AFL Gippsland Regional Manager Tim Cotter said the session provides an outstanding opportunity for local coaches to continue developing their coaching craft.

“One of the most powerful learning opportunities for coaches is seeing how others operate in a live environment. This masterclass gives coaches direct exposure to game day processes and the chance to observe, ask questions and reflect on practices that can be adapted back into community football.”

The Coaching Academy has become a key part of AFL Gippsland’s commitment to supporting and developing coaches across the region, providing ongoing education opportunities while helping build stronger football experiences for players at all levels.
