AFL Victoria through AFL Gippsland in the region is focused on three key roles:

Seven senior mens leagues: East Gippsland Football Netball League, Ellinbank & District Football Netball League, Gippsland League, Mid Gippsland Football Netball League, North Gippsland Football Netball League, Omeo District Football Netball League and the West Gippsland Football Netball Competition.
Seven junior leagues: Central Gippsland Junior Football League, East Gippsland Junior Football League, Sale and District Junior Football League, Southern Gippsland Junior Football Competition, Traralgon and District Junior Football League, Warragul and District Junior Football League and the West Gippsland Junior Football Competition.
Female football competition: Female Football Gippsland incorporating a senior womens competition, Under 18s Youth Girls and Under 16s (South and West Gippsland) and Under 15s (East and Central Gippsland).
Five football umpires’ associations: East Gippsland, Gippsland, Latrobe Valley, Sale and South Gippsland.
Seven local government shires: Bass Coast, Baw Baw, Cardinia, East Gippsland, Latrobe City, South Gippsland and Wellington.
A total of 135 registered clubs across Gippsland.
